Over the weekend, head football coach Bill O'Brien was asked when we could see his backup quarterback, A.J. McCarron, and his slot receiver, , back on the field.
The answer O'Brien gave was not very clear nor very settling for both players.
Here's the full quote O'Brien gave when asked about Coutee and McCarron.
"No, I don't expect either one of them to be back soon relative to what soon means," O'Brien said. "Like tomorrow? No. A week from now? Probably not. We'll just keep playing it by ear. I don't put out an injury report during this time of year. When we have to do that, we'll do that."
That's not very comforting, especially for Coutee, who dealt with an injury last season and cost him a real chance to shine for the Texans during his rookie year.
Coutee suffered the ankle injury during the Texans' first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers last Thursday.
During his rookie year for the Texans, Coutee finished with 28 receptions for 287 yards and one touchdown. In his lone playoff game against the Colts, Coutee finished with a team high 11 receptions for 110 yards and the only touchdown for the Texans in their 21-7 loss.
Hopefully, Coutee's injury isn't serious and he can get back on the field sooner rather than later to give the Texans another deep threat opposite DeAndre Hopkins.
